About Nick Moakes
Before moving to Guernsey, Nick was based in London where he spent 25 years working for some of the world’s leading Financial Services companies.
At Visa, Nick was responsible for managing a portfolio of banks and financial institutions during a period of great change and innovation in the payments industry. He helped his clients develop a number of market leading propositions and oversaw a range of complex projects including platform migrations and product launches.
At American Express, Nick managed teams responsible for key client relationships across a diverse range of businesses including airlines, travel companies, major retailers and restaurants. As Director of Travel Related Industries, Nick became an ‘airline industry expert’ and regularly presented to business leaders at client and industry events.
In October 2020, Nick was voted in as a States Deputy. He is on two committees. The Committee for Economic Development, where he is Finance Lead, and The States Trading Supervisory Board. Nick also sits on a number of sub-committees including The Financial Services Forum, which he chairs, The Trade Policy Forum and The Douzaine Liaison Group. More recently, Nick was asked to chair the Guernsey Green Finance Strategy Group. Nick has set up a separate website (Nickmoakes.com) so that you can see what he has been up to.
Nick is married with two children. He has a long association with Guernsey and moved to the island, with his family, in 2018. Nick is passionate about the island’s future and has spent time studying Guernsey’s economy and demographics in detail. His insights into Guernsey are now being published and he hopes that they will, ‘resonate with people and help them to see beyond the headlines’.
